The Lion Quays Hotel and Spa Wedding Venue North Wales - UK Wedding Singer - Matt Johnson

The Lion Quays Hotel and Spa Wedding Venue North Wales UK Wedding Singer - Matt Johnson
Dawn and Christopher had chosen to marry at The Lion Quays Waterside Resort Hotel in North Wales. They had booked me for my ‘Gold Package’, which includes both evening live entertainment and full evening disco.

The Lion Quays is actually around 30 minutes travel time for me so it was a real treat to be so close to home! I set off nice and early, the wedding breakfast was scheduled to finish at 6:30pm allowing a 1-hour turn around time for the venue and for me to get my equipment set to hopefully start the night at 7:30pm.
I arrived at the venue at 6pm, they were just finishing their deserts and were going to start their speeches shortly. The venue had estimated around 45minutes for the speeches but I think it usually takes a good 1-hour. My timings were correct and the guests and bride and groom vacated the wedding breakfast at just after 7:15pm. There is a great large bar area at the venue so it didn’t matter that the guests had to wait for the room to be amended. I spoke with Dawn and Chris and advised that we would try and be as quick as possible, hopefully be ready to invite guests back into the room for 8pm.

The evening reception room was large; there was a large dance floor area. The staff at the venue were extremely helpful and moved the tables blocking the area I needed to set-up in first so as I could get on with setting up my equipment. You wouldn’t believe the amount of venues I visit where they clear away all the other tables first it really frustrates me!
I set-up my equipment and as you can see from the pictures the room looked great, they couple had chosen to have ‘Rest of My Life’ by Bruno Mars for their first dance, they had originally heard my version on YouTube so it was really nice for me to perform it live for the couple.

Originally they had scheduled their first dance for 8:20pm but as guests were still filtering through from the bar area it just wasn’t the best time for it. I spoke with the bride and groom and the wedding coordinator, they decided to delay the buffet for 30minutes and we would do the first dance/cake cutting at 8:45pm. I agreed this would be a good idea, it allowed people to get a seat and a drink, guests were still arriving so it allowed the bride and groom some time to greet their guests and have a relax.

After the first dance, Dawn had chosen to dance with her dad to Heartland’s ‘I Loved her first’, I sang this live for them and it was a lovely moment. I then carried on singing up until the evening buffet. Both the bride and groom were great; they enjoyed dancing and getting involved as you can tell from the pictures! During the first half we had a dance for all the girls with the bride and also one with the groom and all his friends! Usually the men need a few drinks but not tonight!

After the buffet the guests were raring to get back on the dance-floor so I didn’t wait long before starting my second set. As you can see from the video and pictures the guests all had a great time and everybody danced all night.

I had a picture with the bride and groom at the end of the night, they were a lovely couple and I wish them the very best for the future.

The Lion Quays Waterside Resort Hotel is both a wedding venue and hotel/country club. The venue offers a wide range of services; including gym membership, corporate function event meetings and wedding fayres.

Meols Hall Wedding Venue Southport - UK Wedding Singer Matt Johnson

Meols Hall Wedding Venue Southport
UK Wedding Singer Entertainment Matt Johnson
Today’s bride and groom were Michelle and Robbie, the new Mr and Mrs Beattie. It was Hilary (Michelle’s mum) who had originally booked me after finding me on the Internet.

The wedding venue was Meols Hall in Southport, this is a venue I have visted on a number of occasions for previous weddings, it’s a stunning venue but they have a real problem with sound. They had a sound limiter installed at the venue but on the last couple of occasions I had been there the lady in charge allowed me to bypass this was such a great help. A sound limiter can really effect a night, especially at this venue, as it is so sensitive. Clapping and cheering during a first dance is enough to cut the music and as you can imagine this is not what you want during your first dance!! I always make couples aware of the effect a sound limiter can have on a night, and especially at Meols Hall as this really impacts on the overall sound and would mean that a live band is a definite no at this venue (well if you don’t want the sound being cut constantly!). The lady in charge during the evening is extremely helpful and understands this so that is great.

I had spoken with Michelle and Robbie prior to the wedding and the had told me their wedding breakfast was not until 5pm, as they had booked my ‘Gold Package’ which included both live entertainment and evening disco normally I wouldn’t arrive until the wedding breakfast was complete and the room was available for me to start setting up my equipment. The wedding breakfast and evening reception is all in the same room at Meols Hall, I anticipated the wedding breakfast would be complete at around 7:30pm, but I arrived in good time at 7pm, as usual they were running behind and still had deserts and speeches to go! This meant that the room was not empty and free for me to set up until 8:15pm! This was quite late for me; I was keen to get in and set-up as quick as possible so the bride and groom were able to have as much as a night reception as possible.

Michelle and Robbie were extremely laid back and did not mind that there would be a short set-up time; the venue needed at least 45minutes to move tables etc., but thankfully the weather was nice and the guests were happy chatting outside. As soon as the room was ready I went to have a chat with Michelle and Robbie and we planned the night. They had a cheese cake for their wedding cake so we started the night by them cutting this and then went straight into their first dance which was ‘Green Eyes’ by Coldplay http://youtu.be/gmyq9tIiu8g this was a new song which I had learnt especially for the couple, I hadn’t heard of it prior to the wedding but enjoyed learning it for them.

Michelle and Robbie were a popular couple and had lots of wedding guests, as the night started later than normal most were merry and ready to enjoy the night and have a good dance. Following the first dance I went straight into my first set, everybody really got involved and danced from start to finish, which is always nice for me as a performer. Thankfully the lovely lady in charge at the venue had allowed me to bypass the sound limiter so we were able to have the music as a good volume without the worry of it cutting.
The buffet was brought around by the venue staff which was great as this didn’t really impact on the night, there were a couple of really drunk guests and I was petrified of them near my equipment, I had to keep telling her off and encourage her to have some food! I’m sure she meant no harm but it’s hard to control drunken guests when trying to sing and DJ!!

Following the buffet I went straight into my second live set, again the guests were really up for getting involved, they liked a wide range of music, especially indie so I was able to sing a few songs that I wouldn’t normally sing which was a nice change.

The night went really fast and before we knew it was midnight! The bride and groom had a really great night alongside the parents and all the guests. They were a lovely family and it was great to be a part of their special day. I wish them the very best for their future together.

Rockingham Castle Wedding Entertainment with Wedding Singer Matt Johnson

The newly weds Hayley and Matthew Perry had chosen a lovely venue called Rockingham Castle in Leicester to celebrate their marriage. It is not somewhere I have been before but was very impressed with the grounds, a great place for some fantastic wedding pictures! Hayley and Matthew had booked my 'Platinum Package' including both day and evening entertainment. We arrived at the venue, ready to set up for the wedding breakfast. The wedding breakfast room was quite a small but intimate room looked really stunning. The bride had arranged for a fire-eater to entertain guests during their drinks reception, this is not something I have seen before at a wedding and seemed to be very popular with the guests!

The bride and groom and their guests were a lively bunch, they were more than happy to sing along and get involved during the wedding breakfast which was great!! Following the wedding breakfast there was a time for the guests to relax whilst we moved the equipment and set up lighting ready for the evening reception. This was downstairs in a small cellar style room with the bar at the back, this was for the real partiers as the table/buffet etc was upstairs in the room where they had their wedding breakfast!!

Hayley and Matthew had some great friends and family who danced all night, both the bride and groom had a good dance – Hayley liked her boy bands!! We had a  great night and ended on a great high in the same way we had commenced the night with the first dance! I wish both Hayley and Matthew the very best for the future, thanks for allowing me to be part of your special day!

Julie and Graham had chosen to hold their wedding celebrations at Beeston Manor in Preston. The couple and guests were actually from Southport so they travelled around 40 minutes from their church ceremony to the venue, they and the majority of their guests were staying the night at Beeston. This is a venue I have performed at previously and know well. Its a great room with great views. The wedding breakfast and evening reception were in the same room so we had a one hour turn around following the wedding breakfast to set up ready for the night ahead.

The bride and groom had chosen 'Iris' by the Goo Goo Dolls for their first dance, we asked all the guests to form a big circle around the bride and groom and some of the bridesmaids and wedding party joined in with them towards the end of the song. After this I sang my first set, the guests were very lively and definitely up for a party which was great for me!! Following the buffet we carried on the disco and I sang again later on in the evening, by this point many sambuccas had been drank and the guests were even livelier!! It was a great night and Julie and Graham definitely seemed to enjoy themselves, they have a fantastic honeymoon planned which I hope they both enjoy! Best of Luck for the future!!

Wedding Entertainment at Combermere Abbey with UK Wedding Singer Matt Johnson

Natalie and Thomas had chosen to marry at a lovely venue called Combermere Abbey, it was the first time I had been to this venue, they had a large marquee which looked really great. Instead of the traditional wedding breakfast the bride and groom had chosen an 'Afternoon tea' theme with sandwiches and cakes which their guests seemed to really enjoy. The rain managed to hold off for their wedding ceremony and photographs and we managed to escape the downpours until after the wedding breakfast.

I sang throughout the wedding breakfast as the couple had booked my 'Platinum' all day and night package which worked well, the guests were singing along on their tables, we had set up for the evening prior to the wedding breakfast so as soon as the wedding breakfast and speeches were complete we were able to pull back the curtains and the evening reception could begin. Natalie and Thomas were a popular couple and despite the weather had many extra guests attend for their evening celebrations.

The couple had chosen 'The way you like tonight' by Frank Sinatra for their first dance which I was able to sing for them, its a great song and a particular favourite of mine. The night was a great night, they had a  candy buffet which was very popular! All the guests enjoyed dancing and singing as you will see from the photos below!!

We ended the night with 'Marry You' by Bruno Mars, this was Natalie's favourite song so was a great choice to finish with. We had a  great day and night celebrating with the new Mr and Mrs Owens, we wish you both the very best for the future.

Raven Hall Country House Hotel Wedding Entertainment with Wedding Singer Matt Johnson

Sarah and Ashley had chosen to celebrate their special day at Raven Hall Country House Hotel, Scarborough, the couple had travelled alongside their guests from Stoke to chosen venue in Scarborough. I had been booked by Sarah's mother and father Karen and Roger for my 'Platinum' package, including both daytime and evening entertainment. I arrived at the venue prior to the couples ceremony, the room in which their ceremony was taking place was different to that of the wedding breakfast so we were able to set up my equipment ready prior to this. The ceremony room alongside the wedding breakfast room looked great. The couple were very popular having many guests travel with them to celebrate their special day, including a friend of the family who had travelled all the way from Tenerife!!

The wedding breakfast was fantastic, both the bride and groom and their friends and family were defiantly up for enjoying themselves! We even managed to get their great grandparents dancing during the wedding breakfast which was great! They had a  6 course meal for their wedding breakfast, the staff at the hotel were extremely professional and they were very quick between the different courses so as to not overlap with the evening reception which was in another room.

Following the wedding breakfast we were able to set up the stage, lighting and disco for the night ahead. The staff were extremely helpful in allowing the quickest turnaround possible for us which was very much appreciated. Sarah and Ashley's first dance was 'Hero' which I haven't sang for quite some time and really enjoyed singing this for them. They were a young couple and the bride was a keen dancer!! We had a great party and ended the night in the same way we had began in a circle with their first dance replayed. It was a great moment for both Sarah, Ashley and their guests.

We would like to thank Karen, Roger, Sarah and Ashley for a great day and wish the couple all the very best in their future together.

Below are some pictures from the night including my set up for the evening reception:

Masa Restaurant, Derby Wedding Entertainment with Wedding Singer Matt Johnson

Claire and Dave Galloway had booked me for my 'Gold Package' at The Masa Restaurant in Derby. It was a venue I had never been to be before but was a lovely converted chapel. The wedding breakfast had taken place upstairs and the evening reception was being held in the restaurant area on the ground floor.

We arrived and set up ready for the night ahead, the bride and groom both loved music and were keen to start the evening as soon as their wedding breakfast had finished. They had many new evening guests turn up to celebrate with them and the room was full!!

We all had a great night, Dave particularly liked his Indie music so we had a great time singing to Kings of Leon's 'Sex on Fire'!! The night ended on a very unexpected Conga around the room!! This was a great highlight having all of their guests join on dancing around the room!

It was lovely to be part of Mr and Mrs Galloways' special day and I wish them all the best for their future ahead.
